Výsledky studie by měly posloužit k zamyšlení o využití molekulárně biologických metod v průkazu původců
In the Czech Republic, molecular biological detection of viruses causing gastroenteritis is not routinely used.
Nevertheless, in other countries, this method is considered as a gold standard. In the present study, immunochromatography
(antigen detection), a commonly used method, was compared with multiplex polymerase chain reaction
(PCR). Sixty-nine stool samples were analyzed and a 35% to 57% higher overall detection rate of the causative
agents was achieved. The study results should support the potential for use of molecular biological methods
in the detection of viruses causing gastroenteritis and should enhance the awareness of these infections where
a number of questions remain unanswered.
